Crítica 'Mostar' no WartaJazz Indonesian Jazz News

Berasal dari Lisbon, Portugal, empat rekan musisi tergabung dalam kuartet bernama Al Jiçç. Ialah kornetis Nuno Damião, peniup klarinet Gonçalo Lopes, serta Francisco Artur di posisi kontrabas dan perkusionis Victor Costa, keempatnya mengusung improvisasi kolektif dalam pluralitas bunyi khas Arab, Yahudi, gypsy, klezmer, juga memasukkan elemen rock dan funk. Hasilnya adalah album berjudul Mostar dengan mendaftar 14 trek buatan sendiri yang menggoda untuk disimak. Memulai perjumpaan lewat awalan “Intro” kemudian langsung menggoyang dalam “Zaragata” oleh frase melodik klarinet bas dan kornet. Berlanjut putaran “Hari” berkarater irama funk juga rock oleh rentak drum serta title track metrik ireguler “Mostar.” Ada juga olah skala pelog yang meliputi nomor “Monte Branco” dengan petikan kontrabas ostinatik, hingga denyut swing hiasi trek “Belzebu.” Jika ingin menari ala timur tengah, patut memutar “Dança de Babylon” yang energik. Dengarkan pula komposisi asimetris “Meu Nome é Negro” lewat irama mengecoh atau nikmatnya tepuk darbouka atas “Al-Jazzar.” Impresi musik Afrika bagian utara terdengar dalam kerangka sirkular “Tanger Ina,” sedangkan nafas otentik padang pasir dinyatakan pada nomor “Debaixo da Laranjeira.” Sebelum menuju trek penutup “Djandanças” yang melaju santai, simaklah hitungan lima atas “Cinco” berciri hembusan klarinet versatil.
